Business advice stimulates new business ideas for BusinessXchange

Lyn Milligan, the owner of businessXchange, sold her bed and breakfast in 2016, which prompted her to work with other business owners to source buyers and help guide them through the business sale process. After selling two businesses, Lyn’s personal and business experience in estate agency, property, business start-up and sales gives her a great understanding of the commercial world, and what buyers are looking for.

The Challenge

Lyn was looking at her business strategy and how best to develop this to achieve her primary objective, supporting others to sell their business.

BusinessXchange provides sellers a platform making it easier for them so that they can continue with the job of running their business during the marketing and sale process. Lyn wanted to continue with the fantastic early momentum the business had established while developing new ideas and giving the business the potential to grow.

The Solution

Lyn met TDA Business Advisor Kim Thornton to discuss her ideas and get some 1-2-1 professional advice. Through a business diagnostic, looking specifically at marketing, the new business strategy for BusinessXchange started to come together.

Lyn said: “It was great to meet up with Kim and get advice about the new website and brand I was developing. Together, we established ways in which I could develop the business’s online marketing potential through its reach and engagement on social media.

“Kim also directed me to a number of key events across the South West that are hosted by TDA and other partners, which will develop my network within the tourism and hospitality sectors.”

The Results

With the new website, www.businessxchange.uk, now live, the business’s database is continually expanding and Lyn is helping more sellers and buyers connect and exchange.

With stands being booked for events across the South West in the autumn, BusinessXchange’s new brand will be more visible, raising awareness.

The business has started to implement its new social media campaign, increasing its reach, engagement and contacts.

Through the Growth Hub programme, businesses can register and arrange a meeting with a TDA advisor to complete a business diagnostic. At this point, the advisor develops a support plan, with timescales, to implement a refined business strategy. Further to this, throughout their business journey, the business can benefit from digital marketing support, collaboration, workshops and networking.

Lyn said: “After contacting the Growth Hub I have received an excellent service from TDA.  The meetings with Kim Thornton, TDA’s business advisor, have stimulated a wealth of ideas, optimising my business.”
