Launched in May 2020, Bay Deliveries is Torbay’s new online grocery delivery service, working with local customers and suppliers to deliver convenient and delicious produce straight to your door. Owned by James Arnold, Bay Deliveries is focused on helping Torbay and South West food and drink businesses to prosper, offering a variety of food, drink and household items to local communities, without the need for them to ever leave their living rooms.
The Challenge:
Starting the business at the outset of the Coronavirus outbreak, James knew that Bay Deliveries was an ideal opportunity to provide for the local community during a challenging time.
Whilst James’ business vision was clear, with his goals already mapped out, he wanted to introduce Bay Deliveries to the Torbay community quickly and efficiently to meet the needs of his customer base. To enable this, James felt that independent business support would give Bay Deliveries the right push to get up and running and working with local businesses.
The solution:
James met with TDA business Advisor Kim Thornton, who provided advice and guidance with licensing requirements, seeking premises, CIC structures and also offered support on finding local suppliers that Bay Deliveries could work with. The support was provided by the fully funded ERDF Enterprise Coaching Project which supports start-up and new businesses within Torbay.
James said: “Our advisor Kim has been an absolute star in helping us to get up and running. Without her knowledge we are unlikely to have got to launch nearly as quickly as we did.”
TDA Business Advisor, Kim, said: “James’ initial call to me was extremely encouraging. It was at the beginning of the Coronavirus lockdown and it was fantastic to be supporting an enthusiastic and positive new business which would benefit locals and the Bay.”
The Future:
As a Torbay company, Bay Deliveries is currently focused on collaborating with local customers and suppliers. As the business expands, Bay Deliveries are looking to diversify their customer and supplier base across the South West region.
James is also committed to developing and investing in the local job market in Torbay, with plans to open a Head Office for the business, providing job opportunities such as digital, e-commerce, procurement and managerial roles, alongside positions in distribution and logistics.
TDA will continue to support James throughout his business endeavours, offering support and guidance as Bay Deliveries expands.
